Question from UPSC Prelims 2020 CSAT Paper

Explanation :

Pages in a Book

Statement S1 tells us that there are not more than two figures on any page of the book, and there are 51 pages in the book. So, the maximum number of figures that could be in the book would be if every page had two figures, which would be 102 figures (2 figures/page x 51 pages).

Statement S2 tells us that there is at least one figure on every page. So, the minimum number of figures in the book would be 51 figures (1 figure/page x 51 pages).

However, the information given by S1 and S2 does not allow us to determine the exact number of figures in the book.

Therefore, we cannot answer the question of whether there are more than 100 figures in the book based on the information provided by S1 and S2 alone.
